Quick Facts
  • Server: Executus (PvP)
  • Data center: NY
  • Faction: Horde
  • Raid times: 8pm-1am EST on Tues, Weds, Thurs, Sun
  • Contact us in-game: Durnk, Dobdob, Taint, Stenhaldi
  • Contact us on forums: PM Ziggurat
  • Contact us through email: roperecruit@gmail.com

Who we are:
Ropetown is an Executus Horde raiding guild that was founded in 2004. We're a stable guild that combines our fun, unique personality with competitive progression. We have been known as a successful guild for years with consistent rankings in the U.S. and world. We have a laid-back, casual, and friendly atmosphere. We love to joke around, but we enjoy killing dragons even more.

What we're looking for:
  • Enthusiasm about raiding.
  • Dedication and loyalty.
  • Friendly personality.
  • A high level of knowledge about your class as reflected by your gear, spec, and combat logs. Familiarity with current theorycraft is expected.
  • Adequate raiding experience. You should have killed at least 6/7 heroic Firelands bosses, and have experience in heroic Dragon Soul. Exceptions will be considered, especially if you have significant experience in past content.
  • Availability to raid on Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday from 8pm-1am EST. This is a social and friendly guild, so you should log on outside of these times as well.
  • You should be willing to use Ventrilo for both listening and speaking. If you don't speak – when appropriate – during raids then do not apply.
  • You should have a computer that can handle raid instances and a reliable internet connection. You should also have a UI that fits your class and role.
  • (Optional) Ability and willingness to play an offspec, or the ability to play an alt competently.
  • PvP experience is a plus, but is not required. High arena ratings suggest good situational awareness.

How to apply:
Make sure that you read this section IN ITS ENTIRETY and very carefully before starting your application. It contains important information necessary for your application!

There are two ways to apply to Ropetown. The first is to answer the questions listed in the first reply post to this thread. Alternatively, if you really want to impress us you can write a free form application. Your free form application should cover all the important questions in our application, but it's an opportunity for you to break away from the question/answer format, add your own style and personality, and include extra information you deem important. Don't bother sending in an application if it uses another guild's template, we won't accept it.

If becoming a member of this guild is important to you, put some time into your application. It is in your best interest to go above and beyond the bare minimum. Keep in mind that your application might be the only impression we have of you - make it a good one!

Before you apply please keep in mind that you must prove to us in your application that you are already a fantastic player, or that in our raids you have the potential to grow to become one. Most of the time, but not always, this is done by showing us great logs, top notch past progression, or a history of membership in excellent guilds. If you do not have any of these things you are still welcome to apply, but remember that you must somehow prove your worth!

If you are interested in applying, please email your application to roperecruit@gmail.com Additionally, register at the Ropetown forums, and submit a copy of your app via private message to Ziggurat (case sensitive!). You'll hear back from us within a few days after the first review of your app. We will be contacting you through email, so please be sure that they do not get caught in your spam filter.

If you do the following things you may be instantly denied unless the rest of your application is spectacular. Even if we don't deny you, we will ask you to fix these things, so unless you enjoy wasting your own time it would benefit you to apply correctly the first time. Additionally, it will reflect poorly on your application, because we will know that you are incapable of reading and following directions.
  • DO NOT post your app to our public forums.
  • DO NOT write your app in microsoft word and email it as an attachment.
  • DO NOT attach a screenshot of your UI to your email or forum PM. Upload the screenshot to an image hosting website, such as imgur.com, and paste the link to the screenshot in your application.
  • DO NOT lie to us. This is grounds for instant denial or gkick.

Here's a list of a few things that you should DO to improve your chances of being offered a trial:
  • DO send your application as both an email and as a forum PM. There are reasons for this redundancy, and if you intend to become a member of this guild you will need an account on our forums anyway.
  • DO nicely format your application in both the email and ESPECIALLY the forum PM. It improves readability and means that an officer does not need to spend 10 minutes reformatting your app. Save us time and show that you take pride in the things you do and it will be noticed.
  • DO make sure that our emails are not being caught by your spam filter. If you do not hear from us via email within 3-5 days after your initial application, you should take the initiative and contact us.
  • DO respond promptly and thoroughly to any followup questions.
  • DO tell us if English is not your first language. This is okay with us, provided you can communicate clearly enough when necessary, but if it impacts how your application reads it's important that we know why.
  • DO ask us questions if you don't understand any part of the application process, or simply want more information!
  • DO list your favorite ice cream flavor at the end of your application to indicate that you fully read through this section. If you're lactose intolerant or dislike ice cream you may include your favorite color instead. If you're really indecisive then just note that you read this and we'll remember you're a boring person.

The replies to this thread contain our application template, information about the application and trial processes, and our loot rules.

If you have any questions feel free to contact Durnk, Dobdob, Taint, or Stenhaldi in game, email us at roperecruit@gmail.com, or PM Ziggurat on the Ropetown forums. Thanks for your interest in Ropetown!

STOP! Don't fill out this application yet! By filling out this application you confirm that you have read this thread in its entirety, as well as our FAQ. In the event that we offer you a trial, you understand and agree to all information included here.

Ropetown Application Template
It is recommended that you preserve the format of this application template and use it in your forum PM. The easiest way to do this is to click the "PM" button near this post. You may then copy the formatting into notepad if you wish to save your application along the way, and then copy it back into the forum PM to Ziggurat. Please also make sure that you send your application via email to roperecruit@gmail.com - thanks!

You
  1. Name, age, and gender:
  2. What do you do outside of WoW for both your occupation and enjoyment?
  3. Where do you live? Approximate area is sufficient for those with tin foil hats.

  7. Do you own a Blizzard authenticator?
  8. Explain any of your gear, gems, talents, glyphs, etc. that are suboptimal for progression raiding or out of the ordinary. (This is your chance to tell us why - for example - you are still using ilvl 333 bracers, or why you chose to use glyph A instead of glyph B which most people of your spec use.)
  9. Rate your situational awareness on a scale of 1-5. Explain this rating.

Raiding Experience
  1. When did you start playing WoW and what was the first tier of content you raided?
  2. Please describe in detail your relevant raiding experience. This should only include bosses killed while that tier was the most recent content. Please keep in mind that your claims will be mostly verifiable through armory and lying will be grounds for denial.
  3. List any notable raiding achievements:
  4. Link to World of Logs (this, or a link to another combat log parser, is required):
  5. Do you often rank among your class/spec in your parses (top 200 on WoL)? If you do not rank frequently, why do you think this is the case?

  3. What other guilds are you applying to?
  4. Can you make all of our raid times (8pm-1am EST on Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday)? If not, what conflicts with attending our raids on a regular basis?
  5. On a scale of 1-5 rate your ability to work with other people. Explain this rating.
  6. On a scale of 1-5 rate your ability to take constructive criticism. Are you willing to try new things based on criticism?

Other
  1. Tell us about some important lessons you've learned through WoW during the time that you've played.
  2. Do you PvP? If so: What are your highest arena ratings? What comp did you play and during which season? What's your rBG rating?
  3. Link us a screenshot of your UI, preferably in a raid environment. The screenshot needs to be big enough that we can clearly see all your keybindings (and unhide those hidden bars!).
  4. Do you play on a laptop?
  5. Describe your computer's processor and video card.
  6. What is your average FPS in a 25m raid?
  7. Do you play on a wireless connection?
  8. Do you have a functioning microphone and have or are willing to download Ventrilo? Do you communicate important information during boss fights?

About our Application and Trial Processes

Here is a step-by-step outline of your application process with <Ropetown>:
  1. We receive your application.
  2. An officer reviews your application.
  3. An officer replies to your email with followup questions, or asking for clarification. (This is not always necessary.)
  4. Once any followup questions have been answered, an officer will contact you through email to inform you that your application has either been denied or posted on our private forums for guild review. This usually takes place within 2 days of receiving your application.
  5. An officer may contact you again with more followup questions based on the feedback in your application.
  6. An officer will inform you of the guild's decision on your application. This usually takes place within 3-7 days of posting your application. Please note that we will always contact you about your application even if you are denied unless your armory stops working. In these cases we assume that you have transferred to another guild and are no longer interested. If, for some reason, you decide to name change or something else happens that causes your armory to stop working in the middle of your application process, please let us know.

Your trial in <Ropetown> will last approximately 6-8 weeks at the discretion of the officers. It may be longer. The length of your trial period is based on performance, attitude, reliability, attendance, and how well you integrate with the guild. We have found through experience that shorter trial periods are not sufficient for fully learning about the attributes we value in this guild.

Other than evaluating your performance, your experience as a trial should be very similar to a full member. We welcome new people, and we encourage you to participate with us in other activities outside of raid times, whether these are heroics, our "Scumtown" (an affectionate term for our retired raiders and alts) raids, or Starcraft 2 games.

The contents of your application are confidential, and even after being promoted to a full member you will not be able to read your own application. This also means that if you are denied we will be unable to tell you specifically why.

Loot Rules

Ropetown uses a zero-sum loot system for most loot. This means that you get the dkp of the items purchased from a boss divided by the number of people in the raid or on standby. DKP values for items are are standardized. When we move to a new tier of loot you get a certain amount of total earned dkp carried over from previous tiers; this is usually 10% from the last tier, and 5% from the previous-to-last, but it can vary based on length of the previous tiers and player turnover.

After a boss is killed an officer will ask for tells that show your interest in an item. The best way to do this is to simply link the item you want in your tell. If this is an offspec item make sure you note that. Items are awarded by dkp standing with the following extra rules:

  1. Loot is awarded for main specs before offspecs. If someone wants an item for their raid spec they will get it above someone requesting it for an offspec.

  2. Item costs are as follows:
    Armor (nontier)
      30: Helm, Chest, Legs, Trinkets
      25: Shoulders, Gloves, Belt, Boots
      20: Neck, Rings, Cloak, Bracers
    Weapons:
      1h + OH/Shield: 30 each
      2x 1h: 30 each
      2x 2h: 30 each
      1 2h: 60
Bow + 2h [hunter]: 60 (bow)/free (melee weapon); last on priority for melee weapon
      Relics & wands: Free
  3. All offspec gear costs 2 dkp.
    1. In most cases, we will only award offspec items when the gear is clearly meant for the offspec. In some cases we are more lenient. If you are found to be wearing items you bought at the offspec cost as part of your main gear set you will be charged full price for the item and your privilege to receive offspec items at the reduced dkp cost will be revoked.
    2. Players who are regularly asked to play an offspec (e.g. backup tanks, backup healers) may receive offspec loot over other offspec requests.
  4. If you take an item twice (for enchant purposes, different gemming, etc.) it costs 0 dkp. This doesn't apply to different set items (druid resto gloves vs. tank gloves) but only the same actual item. You can't get an item like this if someone wants to pay dkp for it. Items for PvP still cost dkp.

  5. Set tokens are awarded by a Suicide List. The initial list for the tier matches the order of the starting dkp for that tier (usually 10% from the last tier, and 5% from the previous-to-last tier, as mentioned previously). The tokens themselves cost 0 dkp, and are awarded in the order of the list. After receiving a token, you drop to the bottom of the list. After you have completed your set you will be moved to a token list for offspec items. These also cost 0 dkp, but are only awarded after all raiders have completed their main spec gear.

  6. Applicants will receive loot only when no other members want it for a period at the beginning of their trial. Their main spec requests will still take priority over offspec requests of raiders.
    1. Due to applicants entering the system at 0 dkp - potentially far ahead of many longtime raiders - offspec loot may be rewarded to a raider over an applicant.
  7. Highly desired items and/or items from end bosses may be distributed through an officer loot council.
